Borax Crystal DIY

So, I've been promising a DIY tutorial for these beautiful Borax crystal seaglass and shell pieces, for a few weeks now. And, if you are one of my peeps on Facebook at http://facebook.com/seagypsysvardo, you will know that I posted a video of that tutorial, last night. But, I thought I would still go ahead and have it in post form for you, as well. So, here we go!

What you will need:

* Borax (you can find this laundry enhancer in any grocery store. Very inexpensive, and will last you for quite some time.)
* A Pyrex measuring cup, or some clear glass container that can withstand the heat of boiling water. (Mine is a two cupper.)
* Shells and Seaglass.
* Skewers for dangling the shells or seaglass from. (A pen or pencil will work fine, as well.)
* String to hang the shells from.
* Boiling water. (About three cups, or so. Depending upon the size of container you are using.)

What you will do:

* Bring the water to a boil.
* Pour the water into the Pyrex or glass container.
*** If you want to color your crystals, now would be the time to add food coloring to the water, making sure to dissolve it, thoroughly.
* Begin to add Borax, pouring a few tablespoons at a time, stirring until dissolved, adding Borax, stirring, adding Borax, stirring, until you end up with such a concentrated solution, that the water cannot hold any more Borax, and no more will dissolve. (You will see that some of the Borax is resting on the bottom of the glass container.)
* Now, take the shells or seaglass, and tie it with the string, and attach it to the skewer, making sure that the length is the right amount as to not allow the shells / seaglass to touch the bottom.
* Submerge the shells / seaglass, leaving it dangling in the solution, suspended by the skewer.
* Cover with a paper towel and leave it for 12 to 24 hours. That's it!

The next morning, you will have beautiful Borax crystals that look amazing!

Let me know if you have decided to try this. You'll be so happy with them!

XO,

CJ
